In this podcast, I talk to Emily Yoshida about the life of the warlords in the Sengoku period and in particular the role played by women. We also discuss the historical background to Tokugawa Ieyasu’s use of Dutch and English cannon, and why we chose to have Blackthorne teach the Japanese to use Western cannon rather than muskets, as in James Clavell’s novel.
