国際日本文化研究センターのフレデリック・クレインス教授が監修した、細川ガラシャの最期を描いた漫画「散りぬべき時」がアニメ化されました。このアニメは、ガラシャの侍女である霜の回顧録を基にした創作物語です。
本作品は歴史的史料に基づいた精密な作画と時代に即した言葉遣いが特徴です。視聴者の便宜を図り、オリジナルの中世日本語に加え、現代日本語、英語、中国語の字幕を用意しました。アニメーションの作画は、国際日本文化研究センター研究部クレインス研究室の技術補佐員である三浦麻乃氏と府高航平氏が担当しました。

“The Time to Fall like Scattering Flowers” is an anime adaptation of a manga supervised by Professor Frederik Cryns of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken). This work focuses on the dramatic final days of Hosokawa Gracia, a prominent Christian member of the warrior class in sixteenth-century Japan.
The anime presents an original story inspired by the memoirs of Shimo, Gracia’s lady-in-waiting who witnesses her mistress’s last moments. The narrative aims to bring historical events to life through a personal perspective.
Meticulous attention has been paid to historical accuracy, with both the artwork and dialogue based on extensive research of period documents. To enhance accessibility, subtitles are available in four languages: the original medieval Japanese, modern Japanese, English, and Chinese.
The animation was created by MIURA Asano and FUTAKA Kheōi, technical assistants at Professor Cryns’s laboratory in Nichibunken’s Research Division.
